Slow Horses by Mick Herron, published by John Murray, February 2018.
A wonderful 1st in the series of Slough House novels by Mick Herron. Narrated by Sean Barrett who brings the characters to life and understates the wonderful wry humour that Herron uses to describe people and places.
Set in Slough House, where the spooks who stuff up are sent and are called Slow Horses, the book follow the wonderfully written Jackson Lamb and the all too eager to please River Cartwright. Jackson Lamb the head of Slough House is in charge of this disparate group of stuff ups. He is old school and no ones knows what he did to end up at Slough House.
A young man of Pakistani heritage is kidnapped by three men, members of a right wing group seeking to make a political statement. The Slow Horses are asked to be involved which immediately raises the suspicions of Jackson Lamb.
A wonderful entertaining escapade involving near misses and false leads. Fantastically funny at times.
